BAUXITE PRODUCTION
The profit centre for the bauxite production is the largest organisational
unit in the
Company, both regarding the number of employees, and the engaged assets
and
available property.
The Bauxite production profit centre consists of four working units:
· Bauxite production
· Mining services
· Maintenance of mechanical equipment
· Maintenance of electric equipment
The basic activity of this sector is mining – for our own needs and for
the market.
The supplementary activities are the maintenance and repairs of the mining
equipment and other equipment as well as maintenance services for
third-party customers.
During the forty years of mining tradition, the “Boksit” Company has
produced
25 million tons of bauxite ore and removed more than 60 million cubic
metres of
barren soil.
The mining production volume has been increasing, in the beginning with
an
annual rate of a few thousands of tons of the bauxite ore.
During the mid-eighties the production of the bauxite ore that was determined
by the market demands (projected capacity of the alumina factory “Birac”
Zvornik)
reached the volume of 1.500.000 tons a year.
With that production volume of the bauxite ore and the supplementary
activities – uncovering 5 million cubic metres of the ore at the mining
site,
the “Boksit” company has become the largest bauxite ore producer in the
former Yugoslavia.
Developing and modernising its mining production, the “Boksit” company
acquired
modern equipment from the leading world manufacturers.
The mining equipment is in a function of the technological process – systems
of the
open-pit exploitation with a discontinuous technology. In its production
process
(uncovering barren soil and ore exploitation) the process has functional
sub-processes:
drilling and mining, loading, transport and storage.
For the drilling process we use rotating and impulse-rotating drills
with the
drilling diameter scale from 60 to 120 mm (Salzgitter and Atlas Copco
models).
The loading of the barren soil is performed by electric and diesel hydraulic
dredgers manufactured by “Orenstein & Coppel” and “Caterpillar”, with
capacity from 4 to 10.5
cubic metres and the loading of the ore is performed by wheel loader with
capacity
from 3 to 7 cubic metres (manufactured by “Michigan” and “ULT”).
The transport of the barren soil is made by trucks – dumpers with tonnage
from
80 to 100 tons manufactured by “Faun” and by dumpers with less tonnage
– up to
30 tons manufactured by “Orenstein & Coppel” and “Terex”.
The transport of the ore from the mining site to the customers is made
by
“Mercedes” trucks with tonnage of 34 tons and a “Mercedes Actros” truck.
The storing of the barren soil, the preparation of the non-mineral material,
building of the transport communications and other secondary mining activities
are performed by dredgers manufactured by “Caterpillar” – models D 9L
and D 9N.
The supplementary processes are performed by graders RD-145 and Bomag,
by service and terrain vehicles.
The mining activities are executed on several open-pit mining sites.
“Podbracan”
is the largest open-pit mining site of bauxite ore in Europe.

As the capacity of the available mining equipment is significantly larger
than the
current required capacity for the ore production, since 1991 the “Boksit”
company has established a sector for mining services for the third-party
customers.
With the production volume from 2 to 5 million cubic metres of the removed
barren soil
a year in the last few years, the “Boksit” company has gained a good reputation
in
coalmines in Kakanj, Ugljevik, Gacko and other mining sites.
The maintenance, repair and servicing of the mining equipment and other
equipment, reconstruction and production of new parts for our own needs
and the needs of the
third-party customers is performed by modern equipment in our own workshops
that have more than 6000 square metres of area.
